no time indeed

i didnt post. i'm sorry about that. i will post this week.

i kind of went off task this last 2 weeks. instead of preparing a meal plan ahead of grocery shopping, i just went willy-nilly. probally not the best plan. i spent $110 at the market. including my coffee and cookie. we're going to CNF tomorrow to buy a bit more (cheese....and some other stuff) but the plan is to spend less than $50. damn i hope we do.

i'll post with all the info early in the week.

jan 14th - jan 20

ok. the list is much smaller this week. I think i over buy, and over plan. so i'm going with less this week. I have 2 nights planned for leftovers, and i'll still have too much food in my house.

so here it is:

MENU
sunday ~ roast beast leftovers (there should be tonnes!!!)
monday ~ turkey stew (making a stew from the soup from last week) and biscuts
tuesday ~ chicken thighs and roasted veg (thighs from last week - freezered)
wedndsday ~ black bean burritos
thrusday ~ shrimp stirfry (shrimp from christmas)
friday ~ veggie casserole (tonnes in the freezer - and the last of the fresh - hopefully)
saturday ~ leftovers

GROCERY LIST

**from the market**
milk
yogurt
bread
chicken breakfest sausages
2 avacado
2 yellow onions
2 apple pears
carrots

total - $27 (there may have been a few more things - i dont recall)

**from community natual foods**
rice
cheese
salsa
squash
frozen corn
prunes (for my little paity pants :( )
coffee
tea
chocolate
dried friut
millet
*pretzels
*caleb bought a cereal for him
*2 magazines
*rice crisps

ok, so the magazines were a very frivilous (sp?) purchase, but nick doenst really know the meaning of staying on the list - and i got suckered into a "mothering" magazine, so i cant say much. The tea was $11, the damn cereal was almost $7, (i really should have checked that!) and how is it exactly that rice can be $8 for 1.33KG? wow.

so the total of our "cheap" shopping trip was $98.19, for a grand total of $125.19 (aprox)

so much for keeping it cheap and using stuff that i had in the house.
i'm hoping that if i keep to the list (and maybe shop alone?) i'll spend less. I have to bake muffins with the bananas that i have, and make nick some granola bars too, but i should have time to do that tomorrow, after we go bowling!!!

one thing i've learned

I'm pretty sure i over buy food. It was never obvious to me before. I plan. its what i do. but it seems to me that i must over plan. (i guess to go with my over buying??)

We're 5 days into this meal planning thing, and i've only made 1.5 planned meals. Its worked out well finacially because i ended up using up left overs. my chicken thighs are still in the freezer, the tofu is cooked, but not eaten as i sucked at the cooking part.

so its working.....i'm learning.
